  • Question: Hi, i have a AMD fx6300 and a r7 240. A friend of mine has a r9 380 for 120€. Should I go buy it or should I get a gtx 1050ti or even a 1050?
    Also, with the cooler master seidon 120v can I overclock my CPU to what GHz?

    Answer: The R9-380 is a bit more powerful, but requires a good quality 550W PSU or better. It also runs hotter and will produce more heat in your case.

    Yes, that cooler is fine for OC'ing the FX-6300.

    Answer: If you believe the benchmarks available online, not necessarily. By rights, it should be stronger than the 1050 Ti. But it appears to only equal or slightly lag the GTX 1050 Ti.
    I imagine since they are so close in performance tho, and the 380 being cheaper for you, that it would be the best bang for the buck.
    Hopefully it isn't one that has been cooked to death doing bitcoin mining 24/7.

    The R9 380 is a tier up from the GTX 1050Ti, so theoretically it should be more powerful. Plus, it has twice the VRAM.

    In their testing, there was only 1 game where the 1050Ti outperformed the R9 380 (Gears of War 4 with DX11), & maybe 2 or 3 games where they were neck-and-neck, but for the most part the R9 380 outperformed the 1050TI -- sometimes by only a slim margin, sometimes by a significant amount.

    Given the choice, I'd go for the R9 myself.

    EDIT: Didn't notice that it was the 4GB version of the R9. Still would pick it, though.

    Answer: Either would suit your needs based on the games you mentioned. The R9 380X will offer better performance, but it will also draw more power.

  • Question: I already own one 4gb and been thinking about getting a second one to crossfire. However the rx 480 just came out in a 8gb mobel. I am wondering if I should go ahead and crossfire my current card or get this new one

    Answer: Crossfire is hit and miss... 2 R9 380's will be faster than a single RX480, IF crossfire is supported.

    The best option is look into the games you play the most and decide based on crossfire support for those (although that does risk you having problems with future titles).

    The 480 is a nice card, about same performance as 390x, although I'm not 100% sure that is a big enough jump from the 380 to be worth it?
