Questions and Answers

  • Question: Hello, I just helped my friend put together a computer and I find it odd he gets more FPS than me on the game we play (PUBG). So, here's our rigs and I was wondering if anyone has any information on why? I am using a 24" 1080p monitor, he was using a 40" 1080p TV if that makes a difference? Both using the same resolution.

    Zotac GTX 960 4gb
    Ryzen 1800x
    16gb RAM @ 2400
    AB350 Pro4 mobo

    GeForce GTX 1050 Ti 4gb
    Ryzen 1600x
    16gb RAM @ 2400
AB350 PRO4 mobo (same as me)

I was under the impression the 960 is slightly better than the 1050 Ti, but he gets around 20 more FPS than me (60 vs 80). His graphics card doesn't have the power supply plugged into it, mine does.

Any idea why? Is his card just a better card? Thanks

Answer: in the contrary gtx 1050Ti is a bit more powerful video card compared to gtx 960 .
and pubg is poorly optimized game .
here are the results on ultra settings : https://www.techspot.com/article/1551-pubg-graphics-benchmarks/

he also might have some details on lower settings than you or something
so even if you both play at 1080p it could make a difference .

  • Question: I am trying to build a pc mainly for gaming, which of the following would be better
    Nvidia gtx 960
    Nvidia gtx 1050 ti

Answer: The GTX 960 is only a fraction faster but i would get the GTX 1050 Ti simply because it's the newer architecture with newer drivers. Also is the GTX 960 the 2GB variant? if so this would be more a reason to get the 1050 Ti in my opinion. 2GB will be pushing it in many modern games if you want to crank those settings up. Hope this helps :)

  • Question: Hey guys!
I've been trying to decide between the 1050, the 1050 ti and a second hand 960. The second hand 960 is the same price as the 1050, while the 1050 ti is about 20-25% more expensive. Is it worth buying the 1050 ti for 25% more, or should I save the money. If I should save the money, should I get a new 1050 or a second hand (with warranty left over) 960.

Keep in mind that the 960 that I am looking at is the Gigabyte G1 2gb version.

The specific graphics cards that I am looking at are the Zotac 1050 Ti, the Zotac 1050, and the Gigabyte 2GB 960

    Thanks guys!

EDIT: I have since found out that the 960 way outshines the 1050. In which case its a decision between the 2gb 960 or the 4gb 1050 ti (costs 25% more)

Answer: 960 is more in 1050ti territory. the 2GB on 960 is fine as long as you don't push for VRAM hungry options like heavy level of AA or ultra texture. sometimes the difference between very high and ultra was very subtle but ultra use way more VRAM. if you really tight on budget that used 960 might be enough for you. but despite being more expensive those 1050ti also comes with fresh warranty.

  • Question: Hello, it looks as if I might have to buy a new GPU because the vram on my 960 2GB is failing. I've been looking at the GTX 1050ti. What's the performance like compared to my 960?

Also if anyone could find me the cheapest 1050ti on Amazon that'd be great.
    Uk links please!

    Cheers in advance,

Answer: GTX960 and GTX1050ti are in the same performance tier on tom's GPU hierarchy chart.

Performance differences will be related to the aggressiveness of the factory overclock on either card and perhaps the games you play.
If you play one game exclusively, look for applicable benchmarks.

You will mostly get what you pay for in mid range cards.
My guess is that you get value from a factory overclocked version, but not from the top OC version.
I like the newer GTX1050ti which will usually be more power efficient.
I also like EVGA as a brand for their support.

  • Question: Should i get a GTX 1050 TI or a GTX 960 for gaming? In my country the price of a 1050 ti is a little cheaper than a 960

Answer: There basically identical in performance. The GTX 1050 TI is newer and require lesser wattage, and is cheaper. Get the 1050 ti for sure.
